Sidney Schertenleib – Swiss Academy Talents

Sydney Schertenleib is 19 years old, was born in Zurich, and is now one of the most promising soccer talents in Europe. She plays as a technically strong and dynamic midfielder for FC Barcelona and is also part of the Swiss national team.

Learning in the Swiss Academy Group's individual model

Sydney has close ties to the Swiss Academy, where she built her academic foundation. After moving to Barcelona and entering the world of professional soccer at the highest level, she now spends her days in Spain, where she plays for FC Barcelona.

She continues to be in regular contact with the Swiss Academy. Together, we design flexible educational options that enable her to complete school content in modules tailored to her individual needs. Thanks to our online and remote formats, learning modules can be adapted to her sporting schedule and content.

This structure creates continuity, security, and perspective. It allows Sydney to focus on her athletic development at the highest level while continuing to pursue her academic path in a long-term and flexible manner.

The path to professional soccer

After strong performances in FC Zurich's youth department, she moved to the women's team at Grasshopper Club Zurich. There, Sydney gained important playing experience in Switzerland's top league and took on responsibility on the pitch despite her young age.

The next big step came soon after. In 2024, she transferred to FC Barcelona. Alongside her school education, she continued to develop step by step at the highest sporting level. In Barcelona, she was gradually introduced to the demands of the first team, gained experience in the Spanish league and on the international stage, and showed that she could hold her own at this level.

Her development did not go unnoticed. Sydney was nominated for the prestigious Golden Girl Award. In addition, her strong performances over the past year were recognized with a nomination at the Swiss Football Night.

In the jersey of the Swiss national team

In addition to her successes at club level, Sydney is also a member of the Swiss national team. After playing for the youth teams, she made her debut in the senior national team at an early age.

A particular highlight was her participation in UEFA Women's EURO 2025, which was held in Switzerland. Playing at this level in front of a home crowd was a formative experience for Sydney.

What sets them apart

Sydney impresses with her dynamism, game intelligence, and courage to take responsibility. She works hard on her development, remains eager to learn, and pursues her goals with great discipline.

This attitude is evident both on the court and in everyday life.

What's next?

Sydney wants to continue developing at FC Barcelona, gain experience at the highest level, and further consolidate her role in the national team.

The Swiss Academy Group remains an important point of contact along the way. Through individual support, flexible school models, and a strong network, it will continue to be supported in combining school and top-level sport.

We are proud to accompany Sydney on this journey and wish her all the best for her future sporting and personal endeavors.
