Today we introduce you to Amy Frey (15), a talented ballet dancer who is completing her first year at the Swiss Academy. With her passion for dance and her desire for a quality academic education, Amy has found the ideal balance between school and training.
Amy returned to Switzerland in the summer of 2023 from Belgium, where she had previously spent a school year at a ballet boarding school. However, the French-language lessons and the double burden of school and intensive training posed a major challenge there. With the Swiss Academy, she found a follow-up solution that enabled her to continue her development both as a dancer and academically.
"The taster day at the Swiss Academy was very important for me. I realized that the teaching format in smaller classes and the teachers would suit me well."
At the Swiss Academy, Amy particularly appreciates the flexibility of the timetable, which allows her to prepare for school in the morning and have enough time for her training in the afternoon. The possibility of scheduling physiotherapy appointments and other commitments during non-class time is another advantage for her. She also receives individual support and encouragement from Ms. Bilbao, the Academy's dance coach. Ms Bilbao regularly organizes exciting activities such as special training sessions and insights into rehearsals and performances.
What does Amy's future look like?
"I'm looking forward to the coming school years. I enjoy going back to school and look forward to seeing my classmates and our teachers almost every day. The A-level qualification opens up many opportunities for me to continue my academic education and the intensive training brings me a step closer to my dream of becoming a professional dancer."
